Sonja Ganguin is Professor of Media Literacy and Appropriation Research at the Institute for Communication and Media Studies and Director of the Centre for Media and Communication (ZMK) at the University of Leipzig. Ganguin taught at the University of Bielefeld at the Faculty of Education, worked at the FernUniversität Hagen and at the University of Paderborn at the Institute for Media Studies in the areas of media education and empirical media research.
Ganguin is a member of the International Communication Association (ICA), the German Society for Journalism and Communication Studies (DGPuK), the German Society for Educational Science (DGfE), the Centre for Childhood and Youth Research (ZKF) and a member of the Society for Media Education and Communication Culture (GMK). Ganguin is also a board member of the Working Group for the Protection of Children and Young People (AJS), a jury member of the Media Competence Prize of Central Germany and the German Computer Game Prize (DCP), an examiner for the Voluntary Self-Regulation of Television (FSF) and an advisory board member of Digital Education Meets School (DigiBitS).
